Black Stars Of Ghana Pick One Point After Two Matches In 2022 Africa Cup Of Nations

Black Stars of Ghana have been held to a 1 – 1 draw against Gabon in the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations. Captain Dede Ayew scored for Ghana in the first half but Jim Allevinah canceled out for Gabon in the closing stages of the game.

This means Ghana have picked a point after two matches in the group stage.

Ghana and Gabon made few incursions in the opening ten minutes of the game but they fell shot to put the ball into the net. 

In the 14th minutes, Jordan Ayew made a good run on the right side of attack and whipped in a cross with precision but there was no one to connect it. Daniel Kofi Kyereh also had his way in the center part of the final third but his shot at goal went wide across goal post. 

Skipper Dede Ayew made an individual effort to break the deadlock in the 19th minutes. The Al Sadd forward latched on to a pass by Thomas Partey, made a brilliant turn and unleashed a powerful shot, beating goalkeeper  Jean Noel in the process. Following Ghana’s lead, the tempo of the game soared as both sides continued to comb for goals. 

Black Stars came close to another goal as Kamaldeen Sulemana cut in from the left side of attack but Gabon clearly sent the ball away. At the half hour mark, Ghana had their lead intact as Gabon searched for the leveler. 

Jordan Ayew in the 35th minutes got his way through his marker but the final cross eluded his teammates. Kamaldeen Sulemana located Dede Ayew with a neat cross but his connection was misdirected. 

With three minutes to the end of first half, Gabon had a free kick but could not utilize the opportunity as the ball went into the waiting arms of goalkeeper Joseph Wallocot. 

Ghana defended their only goal to end the first half. 

Ghana and Gabon started the second half with energy, passing balls with intensity. Gabon almost had their way as they ran towards goalkeeper Joseph Wallocot, but he managed to get the ball as Gabon appealed for penalty. 

Gabon kept the pressure on Ghana and made another dangerous move towards goal but Baba Abdul Rahman had a touch of the ball to save Ghana. Ghana remained alert and resilient to prevent balls from entering the net. 

In the 79th minutes, Gabon had a chance to equalize only to be denied by a shot across goal post. In the 84th minutes, Aaron Salem made a good effort for goal but his shot went to the other side of the net.

With pressure mounting on Ghana, Jim Allevinah had a better run and pulled parity for Gabon.  

The game ended a goal apiece.
