The Ho Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Divine Bosson, has gone into action, as bulldozers crushed to the ground buildings and structures, which are blocking waterways and sited at places earmarked for road projects in the Volta Regional capital.
Many of the encroachers could not hold back tears – they wept bitterly seeing the buildings and structures they had put in so much money leveled.
Divine Bosson is sending unambiguous message that it is not going to be business as usual. It is now, a different ball game.
He says he will go to every length to make sure that Ho does not become a big slum but remains a well-planned beautiful city.
The demolition exercise was carried out at the school of hygiene main campus junction, where unauthorized structures were bulldozed to make it easier for vehicles to get to the school campus.
Divine Bosson expressed deep discomfort with the lack of access roads in the place and said the municipal assembly owed it a duty to the people and to posterity to open-up the municipality.
He said the exercise was going to be sustained “The whole of this community is without an access roads.
It is a responsibility for the assembly and our mandate to open-up Ho.
This is not going to be the first and this is not going to be the last.”
The municipal chief executive said they would however, be doing things with a human face.
Those who have built to block waterways and places reserved for roads would be given some space to organize themselves and vacate.
The encroachers are going to be given some time to fully vacate the areas.
They have been pleading with the assembly that “we should spare them some parts of the road, so they can get themselves ready and move from the area, which we have agreed. We are human.”
