Accra: Four arrested for allegedly robbing a 51-year-old man

Sammy Owoahene, 51, had just thought of buying a Mercedes Benz sedan vehicle for his 52 birthday when his houseboy, James Makli, suggested to him an agent he knows. Sir, I know someone who can help you get the car at affordable pricing, James said to his boss on 22 June 2021. 

James, the houseboy, did not recommend anyone in particular except his younger brother, Lamlel Waduin. Lamlel, a car agent at the Tema Port, was invited to the Owoahene house at Achimota Golf Hills on 25 June after James had recommended him. 

Lamlel, was given the contract to buy the Mercedes Benz after James had promised his boss an excellent job and a massive discount, but all that were lies. The car which was supposed to be imported from US, was actually imported from Japan on 24 August, and arrived at the Tema port on 26 November 2021.

It was after the arrival of the car, Sammy found out the car was right-hand drive instead of the normal left-hand drive for Ghana roads. Lamlel and James, in an attempt to dupe Sammy again, recommended Sammy hire a mechanic to change the car from right to left. 

The three; Lamlel Waduin (Agent), James Makli (Houseboy), and Moro Abdul (Mechanic) was able to convince Sammy’s driver (Nana Yaw Fordjour) to play a victim to a robbery. The four allegedly acted together and played a robbery scene on Sammy on 21 December 2021. 

Sammy on the 19 December received a call from the Mechanic (Moro Abdul) that, his car was ready to be picked after he had paid for the steering changing. The four had already planned to rob the car and when Sammy sent his driver Nana Yaw to pick the car, the task became easy for the four as the four failed to deliver the car to Sammy on 21 December 2021. 

Nana Yaw with a self-inflicted bruised face, narrated that the car has been stolen on his way home. Sammy felt for the story and took Nana Yaw to the hospital, but later remembered he had left his apple watch in the car armrest. 

With find my iPhone in the watch, Sammy traced the car to the house of his mechanic (Moro Abdul). Moro Abdul after his arrest this morning for stealing and robbing a customer, confessed to the entire planning of the robbery and incriminated all four. 

The Dome Kwabenya Police acting on the confession of the mechanic (Moro Abdul), has arrested the remaining three suspects; Lamlel Waduin (the Agent), James Makli (the Houseboy), and Nana Yaw Fordjour (the driver) for duping and robbery.

All four, except the Mechanic has denied robbing the car and blamed the mechanic for robbing the car alone. The three Lamlel Waduin (the Agent), James Makli (the Houseboy), and Nana Yaw Fordjour (the driver) had denied having a hand in the robbery and blamed Moro Abdul the Mechanic for robbing the car alone. The police are still investigating the case whether the robbery was done by one or all four.

The car which was in the process of being dismantled has been towed to the Dome kwabenya police station in Accra.
