Jean Mensa, the Electoral Commissioner of Ghana is the news again. The lady who oversees the conduction of safe and fair elections has been at the center of one controversy to the other. The opposition National Democratic Congress have claimed that she rigged the last elections and tried through a court proceeding to cross examine her but this never happened. The ruling NPP however feel she did her job well as an independent commissioner in the last elections.
Fix the country campaigners have appealed to President Akufo-Addo to investigate the EC boss and get answers as to why the people of Santrokofi, Akpafu, Lolobi and Likpe were disenfranchised in the Parliamentary elections of 2020. Ordinarily as in Ghana’s laws, the president has to call a commission to start investigation even if the appeal has no merit. This is yet to happen.
On Good Morning Ghana, today, Wednesday, January 12, 2022, veteran journalist Kwesi Pratt wondered why the President is wasting time in getting a commission to begin the process of investigation. According to Kwesi Pratt, the decision on not making the SALL people to vote was deliberate and the message was deliberately conveyed the day before the main elections.
Kwesi explained that it was an anomaly and he was surprised that the nation has sat down for a year without talking about this issue. He called on President Akufo-Addo to do the needful as the constitution demands.
