It appears the widower at the center of the Ambulance delivery brouhaha in Takoradi has more troubles to face. He has been living with his late wife, Augustina Awortwe for the past four years and they both have two children together. Even though he has not performed the full marriage rite of the lady, families are aware that they are living together.
There were no troubles from the family until the sudden demise of the young lady. She had gone to the Holy Child Hospital at Fijai in Takoradi to deliver when her complications became critical. She was transferred to the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital in the Greater Accra Region but the inability of her husband to produce GHC 600 to buy fuel for the ambulance compounded the entire situation. They had to return to Takoradi whilst his wife was still suffering in the vehicle and that led to her untimely death. Her husband, Mr. Obiri Yeboah has since blamed the ambulance service for causing the death of his wife due to the unprofessionalism they exhibited.

As he is still contemplating on dragging the ambulance service to the court, the family of his wife has invited another trouble for him. Unfortunately for him, the family is demanding that he marries their relative officially before the burial can take place. With this, he is required to perform the marriage ceremony to the family before they will support him in burying her.
This is a situation that is very common in some Ghanaian communities. It is required that men must perform all the marriage rites of the ladies they wish as wives before living together. However, many persons defy this rule and decide to instead live with the lady under the same roof with the intention of performing the marriage rites at a later date. The sad aspect of the issue is when the lady unfortunately dies. This is where the family begins to make demands.

Mr. Obiri Yeboah has deposited the body of his late wife at the Dompoase mortuary in the Shama District. He is also dealing with the circumstances leading to the death of his wife with the intention of seeking legal redress. Now, the biggest hurdle is how he can perform the marriage before the burial.
In the meantime, the Holy Child Hospital in Takoradi has declined to speak on the matter. They have assured the public that an official statement will soon be released to the public.
