A 35-years-old named Blessing Yakubu from Bawku in the Northern region of Ghana shared about the way she learned smoking and drinking alcohol from her stepmother at the age of thirteen. She stated that her father married three women, her mother was the third wife. One of his father’s wives died leaving two of them, the other stepmother of Blessings used to smoke and drink alcohol and out of curiosity, Blessing started learning how to smoke and drink alcohol from her stepmother when she was 12 years old.
Every evening, her stepmother sent her to buy alcohol for her, on the way back she will drink some of the alcohol and add water to it so that the woman will not see it. The stepmother found out later that she has been adding water to the alcohol so she stopped sending her. Blessing was not getting the alcohol to drink again so she started drinking palm wine, she also went ahead to learn to smoke too. Blessing went to Kumasi and work with a woman but she had an issue with the woman which made her move from her house to stay alone. Life became difficult for her, she was not having a place to stay. Luckily for she started dancing at a spot then she was offered a job at the spot.
She later met Yaa Bode who used organized a concert party, she danced at his concert but still, she was not having a better place to stay. Sometimes she has to sleep in a commercial car till the next morning. Blessings got a job at a galamsey site, unfortunately, someone gave her a toffee that contains weed. After eating that toffee she nearly went mad. She kept calm to control herself to avoid doing unusual things. Since that day, she did not eat that toffee again, All this while she used to drink alcohol and also smoke weed, she slept with a lot of married men. Blessing travelled to Accra to continue with her lifestyle, she once slept with a lesbian when she went to visit her boyfriend. Blessing said sometimes, she regrets doing all those things with her life but she had repented from all those things.
