I Was Sad When Somebody Said That Now, They Can See Two Cars Parked At Homes Of Lecturers -Dr. Yayra

A member of the communication team of the NDC, Dr. Benedicta Yayra Fosu-Mensah, has revealed that she was surprised and sad when somebody made a mockery of lecturers and said that now, they can see two cars parked in front of the homes of lecturers.

Dr. Benedicta Yayra made this statement on ‘Good Morning Africa’ on Pan Africa television this morning, 10th December 2022, when she gave her opinion on the indefinite strike actions by UTAG.

According to Dr. Benedicta Yayra, people are saying that Ghana or the government is broke, but she doesn’t believe that Ghana is broke, it’s just a matter of priority.

Dr. Benedicta Yayra indicated that the issue of salaries disparity is something that we should look at as a country because why would a Lecturer at the end of the month take home just peanut as a salary?

“You know, I was so surprised one day when somebody made mockery of lecturers and said that now, they can see two cars parked in front of the homes of lecturers, and I felt so sad.”

Dr. Benedicta Yayra stated that she felt so sad for Ghana about that statement, and then she asked herself that when Kwame Nkrumah was then the president, the salary of lecturers was even higher than the salary of the politicians or the salary of an MP, but now, people will laugh that lecturers now at least park two cars in front of their homes.

Dr. Benedicta Yayra revealed that lecturers are the peoples who educate almost everybody in the country, yet a Lecturer cannot have the luxury of walking into a car shop and saying that he or she wants to buy this car, and we think it’s okay?

“I think for now, UTAG, we are saying that it is now or never, and Teacher deserves better. We’ve always been saying that the rewards of teachers is in heaven, but I keep asking this, how sure are we that all teachers are going to heaven to receive these rewards?” She added.
