The National Communications Officer of the National Democratic Congress Sammy Gyamfi lauded the President’s directive for the suspension of the reversal of benchmark value on certain imports.
In a Facebook post, he wrote “Kudos to GUTA, the Importers and Exporters Association of Ghana and all those who stood against the callous decision by the government to reverse benchmark value discounts on imports”.
According to him, this was going to be one of the bad economic policies in the history of our country and until this kind of government policy is dropped, Ghanaians have no time to rest.
“Together, we have averted what was going to be one of the most draconian and devastating economic policies in Ghana’s history. We have demonstrated that the power of the people is powerful than the people in power.”
The reversal is said to have affected 43 items rice, poultry, sugar, palm oil, toilet paper, mosquito coils, machetes, and even vehicles and others.
