The Black Stars of Ghana are currently completing their training before AFCON starts in Cameroun. With a new format of 24 teams, the Black Stars will have to work so hard if they want to make a difference in the tournament. The last time Ghana won the trophy was in 1982 and since then it has been a plethora of quarter finals, semifinals and finals. The Black Stars lost their last friendly against Algeria this week and expectations are low for most Ghanaians.
Nana Akomea while reacting as to why Randy Abbey has been absent from hosting Good Morning Ghana in the course of the week called on the host to do well in Cameroun. Nana Akomea was told that Randy was assisting the team and the coach because he was instrumental in appointment of the coach. In a rather subtle way, Nana Akomea then charged Randy not to return to Ghana if the Black Stars fail to reach the finals.
This was opposed by Okudzeto Ablakwa, MP for North Tongu who insisted that the Black Stars have been to several finals and as such the team had no option but to win the tournament. He noted that with the displeasure and pessimism among most Ghanaians the only option is for the team to win the trophy. He called on Randy to do well and bring home the trophy.
The last time the Black Stars went to the finals was in 2010 when a depleted side went all the way to the end but succumbed to Egypt. Since then the dwindling fortunes of the Stars have continued with no sight of a trophy win.
