‘She was protecting her husband ‘ – Fufu seller in trouble for protecting an alleged rapist

Aishaetu Kabungo, had prevented her younger sister’s daughter from coming out with a case after the girl had confided in her on eight different occasions. The girl, Wamila Harul Mohammed, had confined in her aunty, Aishaetu, when she was maltreated and raped on 14 March 2021. That was her third maltreatment, Krofrom police report confirmed. 

Wamila, known in Moshie Zongo as Wami, is a 17-year-old girl of Aishaetu’s younger sister. Aishaetu, a fufu and Tuo-zafi seller at Kumasi Moshie Zongo, had asked her sister Jamila to send her daughter Wami, to Kumasi so Wami could support her with the Fufu business. Wami after she arrived in Kumasi on 24 November 2020, became the new trouble maker for Aishaetu’s husband.

Daniel Kabungo, the husband of Aishaetu Kabungo, had found troubles with everything Wami did in the house after she arrived in Kumasi until 25 December 2020, when Daniel forced himself on Wami when she was preparing their evening meals. Wami could not voice out what Daniel had done to her and kept it to herself until the second and third incidents. 

Wami, on the 14 March 2021 was fetching water for her bath when Daniel forced her down and had his third way with her. Daniel did not stop there, as kept having sex with young girl as he wished. Wami reported the incident to her aunty Aishaetu but nothing was done on the issue. 

Daniel made sure to have sex with Wami every month from 25 December 2020 to 29 November 2021. In total, Wami was forced for sex thirty-eight times from 25 December 2020 to 29 November 2021 when Wami gathered courage to push her rapist off.

Daniel on 29 November 2021, was raping Wami on his 38th time when Wami used a kitchen knife to hit him on the head. Daniel collapsed on the spot and was sent to the hospital but it was reported that, he had tripped and fallen on the ground. 

Aishaetu did not do anything to the husband after the 29 November incident, but forced Wami to shut up and threatened to beat her if she revealed anything to anyone. Wami with no support got sick on 23 December 2021. 

She was taken to the hospital and it was confirmed that she was four months pregnant. Daniel after finding the pregnancy forced Wami to take a drug on 2 January 2022. Wami was rushed to the hospital (name withheld) on 3 January after she had lost over 6 units of blood. 

Wami after she was stabilized, confined to her doctor why she aborted her pregnancy. The doctor, acting on behalf of Wami, reported the incident to the Krofrom Police. Daniel Kabungo was arrested on 6 January 2021 for rape, attempted murder and child molestation while his wife, Aishaetu was arrested this morning for aiding and abetting a crime. 

Dr Achiama Florence, the doctor in charge of Wami’s health, had stated that the police needed to arrest Aishaetu after her husband was arrested yesterday. She was protecting her husband and needs to be arrested, Dr Achiama said in her police complaint before Aishaetu was arrested this morning. 

Aishaetu Kabungo and her husband Daniel Kabungo are still at the police station helping with investigations.
