The attention of everyone, especially Africans is on the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON). The competition begins in two days with the opening game between host, Cameroon and Burkina Faso. The prize monies have been revealed and it could be seen that there have been various increments in the amount given to the teams during the last tournament (2019). According to popular sports journalist, Gary Al-Smith, the winner of the tournament is expected to receive $ 5 million which is about $ 500,000 increment in last tournament’s value.
The team which emerges second at the end of the tournament is also expected to receive $ 2.75 million while semi finalists are expected to walk away with $ 2.2 million. The quarter finalists would also go home with $ 1.75 million. That’s some huge amounts of money for the teams which performs well in the competition.
