It should be noted that the CCP for KG and primary schools was successfully implemented in September 2019 but since then there is no text books for the teachers or learners to use.
Will JHS teachers and students suffer the same fate as their primary school counterparts?
1. Currently, Basic Schools in Ghana, from KG to class 6, do not have textbooks to study. Actually, they don’t even have an approved text books from which teachers can teach. They are depending on the temporary Resource Pack given them.
However, it was reported in September 2021 that Government has spent about 35Billion Cedis to purchase “Past Questions” (not textbooks) for SHS students.
Ghana Education Service also attributes the good performance in the 2021 WASSCE to the past questions purchased.
2. Are we promoting “exam centered” educational system which the new curriculum seeks to eradicate?
In the 21st century when countries in the world are building well – advanced I.C.T Labs, modern Science labs, Vocational and Technical Workshops, new Agricultural technologies, etc, text books for the Basic school learners ain’t coming. What kind of future leaders are we building and how can they meet the demands of the growing world?
3. The multi million question is when did “Past Questions” take the place of textbooks? Past questions are supposed to be used as complementary materials to textbooks and classroom lessons. They are not to take the place of textbooks.

4. The politicisation of every aspect of the country is getting nauseating and worrying. The politicians should leave the running of crucial sectors of the economy to technocrats. Just like a cocoa farmer can’t do away with his cutlass, teachers and learners need text books in schools.
primary schools have got no text books after two years of implementation of the new curriculum, how certain are we that the Junior High Schools are going to get it?
It’s high time parents and other stakeholders advocate for text books to be released for Succesful implementation of the CCP Curriculum.
