Former President John Dramani Mahama has spoken publicly for the first time after the death of his brother Mr. Emmanuel Adam Mahama. In a Facebook post on Wednesday intercepted by CitizenOne, the former head of state thanked everyone who supported his family in mourning his late brother.
He thanked the Chief of Staff Akosua Frema Osei- Opare and the Ghana Airforce for the support they gave to the family as part of burial arrangements for his late brother.
He also thanked the rank and file of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) as well as all Ghanaians for the show of love to the Mahamas during the period of bereavement.
” I want to extend my appreciation to all our comrades in the National Democratic Congress for the condolences extended to my family on the death of our brother, Emmanuel Adam Mahama. Thank you to all who accompanied us to Bole for his burial on Sunday.
We are particularly indebted to our senior comrade and Chairman of the NDC Council of Elders Alhaji Mahama Iddrisu for his presence and support. We also want to thank Madam Chief of Staff Frema Osei- Opare, the Chief of Air Staff and the Airforce for the support to airlift the remains of our brother on Sunday. Similarly, I thank all Ghanaians for the support and comforting words” , the posts read.
Earlier, there were rumours that the first and second gentlemen had refused to condole with the Mahamas for reasons no one could tell.
The Bono Regional Youth Organiser for the opposition party had alleged that the president and vice president remained quiet over the death of Mahama’ s brother because they hate him. In a Facebook post, Efo Worlanyo described the two leaders as vindictive.
But with an appreciation message to the chief of staff, many have concluded that even if the president and vice didn’ t sympathize with the family, they supported it indirectly.
Mr. Emmanuel Adam Mahama died on 31st December 2021 in Accra after a short illness according to the special aide to Mr. Mahama. He was buried in Bole in the Savannah region on 3rd January 2022 in accordance with Islamic customs and practices.
