France lost to Argentina via penalties in the 2022 FIFA World Cup final. It was a tough loss for French fans to digest. Kylian Mbappe scored a hat-trick during the nail-biting contest but his valiant efforts went in vain.
Former France left-back Patrice Evra recently asserted that the loss may have given Les Bleus new motivation. He continued by saying that French players might vent their rage on opposing teams.
The former Manchester United full-back wrote the following in his exclusive column for Betfair:
“For other nations, I’m concerned. I promised that if we won the championship, we would also win the following one. Now, I believe there will be even more desire to do that and anger.”
Didier Deschamps’ team was without superstars like Karim Benzema, Paul Pogba, and N’Golo Kante throughout the competition because of injuries. Though it’s debatable whether it had an impact on how they competed as they advanced to the final. It demonstrates the breadth of resources currently available to the European heavyweights.
Evra noted it and stated in writing:
“The Ballon d’Or winner Benzema, as well as Kante and Pogba, did not play for France. It’s unsettling how much potential we have. France reaching the championship was not anticipated. We were present and so close to winning it once more.”
Evra went on to say that players like Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo are getting older and may retire soon. In the meantime, Les Bleus have a young Mbappe among their ranks, and in the upcoming years, other younger players will support the 24-year-old.
“Every team has their best player, but they are ageing if you look at them. Messi may decide to leave Argentina, and I don’t believe Ronaldo will pursue another World Cup with Portugal when you consider other nations.”
Added him:
“The only GOAT who is still young when you look at all the teams is Mbappe. Additionally, he is surrounded by a young team. France’s future seems promising.”
Didier Deschamps has not yet indicated whether he will remain as France’s head coach following the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
Since taking over in 2012, Didier Deschamps has changed the French team’s fortunes. With Deschamps in charge, Les Bleus have won the FIFA World Cup in 2018.
The 2022 FIFA World Cup finals will be captained by the member of the winning team from 1998. He hasn’t yet decided against continuing to lead the team as a coach, though. The conclusion of the negotiations is anticipated for the beginning of the following year.
