Eriksen to start: predicted Man United line-up vs Burnley

Manchester United are finally back in action this week, more than one month since club football was paused to accommodate this winter’s World Cup.

Erik ten Hag is likely to select a drastically different starting lineup for this week’s Carabao Cup match against Burnley because 37 days have elapsed since Alejandro Garnacho scored the game-winning goal at Fulham with practically the last kick of the match.

The team of Vincent Kompany travels to Old Trafford in superb shape, leading the Championship, and with just two losses all year. Although United is also in strong form, Ten Hag will be without many of his key players for this contest.

Diogo Dalot, who started Portugal’s two World Cup knockout games, had an injury in Qatar and has not started working out again at Carrington.

A further two-thirds of United’s starting backline will sit out the contest. After playing in the World Cup final, Raphael Varane was granted a week off, and Lisandro Martinez is now in Argentina to celebrate the victory.

Following their participation in mid-season friendly against Cadiz and Real Betis, Anthony Martial, Scott McTominay, and Anthony Elanga are among the players who are quite likely to get the game’s opening kickoff.

David de Gea might also start, although it’s unclear if Ten Hag would choose on-loan Martin Dubravka as his goalkeeper for the cup.

Due to Dalot’s injury, Aaron Wan-Bissaka, who hasn’t played much under Ten Hag, may get his first season start. Tyrell Malacia, who started in Dalot’s place against Fulham, may also get the nod in Dalot’s place.

De Gea; Wan-Bissaka; Lindelof; Maguire; Shaw; McTominay; Eriksen; Elanga; Van de Beek; Garnacho; Martial are the predicted members of the Manchester United starting lineup (4-2-3-1).
