The opposition National Democratic Congress will be going to the polls soon to elect national executives. Already the ruling NPP are in a comfortable lead as they have already elected their men to lead them in the next election. The NPP are left with a flagbearer to complete their squad. For the NDC they might have a leading flagbearer but they will have a herculean task electing national executives.
One of the hottest contest will be the General Secretary position. This has become one of interest as Asiedu Nketia, the incumbent will be stepping down to vie for the National Chairman position. The 3 personalities to contest are Dr. Peter Otukonor, Elvis Afriyie Ankrah and Fifi Kwetey. Kevin Taylor thus created a poll on Facebook which was handled by Polls for Pages on Facebook.
According to the released statistics, 63% of the votes came from Ghana with other countries sharing the remaining 37%. About 3,422 people voted in all, with just a little over 3000 mentioning why they preferred the candidate they voted for. Fifi Kwetey, a former Propaganda Secretary for the NDC won with 39.7% amounting to 1,358 votes. This was followed by Peter Otukonor with 30.8% representing 1,053 votes. Elvis Afriyie Ankrah, a former Minister of Sports came third with 29.5%.
The result showed a heated contest and this poll from Kevin might just cast a shadow as to what will happen in the real contest. Fifi Kwetey might be leading but like the NPP General Secretary position that saw some shocks, the NDC race too can see major shocks happening. Many have argued that Fifi might struggle with his Twi language if elected. Some however feel he is the right candidate to lead. Peter is young and many feel his time will come. Can Fifi Kwetey win the elections to emerge as the new NDC General Secretary?
