You Blocked My SIM Card: I Use My Wife’s Phone If I Want To Make A Call; Johnny Hughes Tells It All

On Friday, 9th September 2022, TV3’s Johnnie Hughes made some comments about the ongoing punitive measures on SIM card users.

According to the broadcast journalist, he duly registered his SIM card during the registration process at his church. He expressed surprise at how his SIM card has been blocked for no fault of his.

” Why can’t the sim card registration process be extended for all Ghanaians to register? Which democracy does not listen? Even the NIA has admitted the challenges in issuing out the Ghana card but we are still blocking the SIM cards of those who could not register”.

” I registered my SIM card on a Sunday at Church but I now use my wife’s phone to make a call even though I duly registered. Why did you block my SIM card?”.

Johnny Hughes further explained that the government has blocked avenues for getting its revenues because businesses thrive on phone calls.

“You can only get more tax revenues when your citizens make calls to demand debts from their debtors. How can we get to those who owe us so that they pay for you to charge your E-levy?”

He explained it is difficult for most SIM card users to get their Ghana cards hence the need for government to exercise patience in rolling out punitive measures.

” It is difficult to get our Ghana cards. Even Aisha Huang used a Sunday to get her card due to the difficulties involved”.

What do you make of the explanation of Johnnie Hughes for government to extend the timeline for the sim card registration?
