The very special, smarter, untouchable and scary Aisha Huang has caused a series of divergences in the public and media spaces of Ghana and China, particularly. In the bus, on the streets, in the market, at workplaces, in social centres, on vibrant digital, print and physical media spaces, a lot of Ghanaians never get exhausted talking about this Galamsey Queen. It is on this premise that questions upon questions keep sparking controversies, surrounding her reappearance in Ghana.Â
While some Ghanaians are questioning the Immigration Authority of Ghana for her presence in the country again, others have taken the argument from a systemic point of view, and rather casting blames on all the institutions involved in all this mess. To them, it appears that the system itself is beyond description and repair, looking at how corrupt and loopholed it is.Â
While her arrest is a starting point for a greater win against Galamsey for Ghana, there is also a dilemma surrounding the whole issue. Some experts are claiming that the recent arrest of Huang could go a long way to affect the friendly relationship between Ghana and China. It is worth nothing that Ghana has a very strong trading relationship between the latter. Due to that, it can easily import certain basic necessities like toilet rolls, toothpastes, food items, among others. This, according to some Ghanaians, could be truncated if Aisha’s case is not handled with a proper care and vigilance.Â
Horace Nii Ayi Ankrah, former Ghana’s Ambassador to China however disagrees. “I believe that Aisha Huang’s arrest will never jeopardize the relationship between Ghana and China,” he said. He rather charged the officials and institutions involved in this case to allow the law to take its course.Â
He even made it clearer in the statements below:
“Let’s arrest anyone who aided Aisha Huang in her dealings.”
“They should never allow the perception that ‘arresting a Chinese National will jeopardize our relationship with China’ to prevail over what the law says.”
“The authorities must arrest, prosecute and jail whoever is found culpable.”
Nii Ayi Ankrah narrowed it down, and advised the Government to consider banning Visa on arrival for Chinese Nationals.
This fear and intimation associated with giant economies must be erased from our mental faculties because it is making us more vulnerable. Instead, we must focus on becoming more self-reliant. And this is the way to go:
“We must focus on ‘operation feed yourself’, industrialize our nation, so that we can be strong enough to face any country in the world.
