Known investigative journalist Manasseh Azure Awuni has re-echoed the published irregularities from the auditor general’s report on some misappropriation of state funds in many state-owned companies and firms.Â
Manasseh made a profound statement on his Facebook wall on the revelations made by the publications in the auditor’s general report.Â
He wrote, “The annual Auditor-General’s report will keep getting worse because nobody is punished for the rot and blatant looting”.
The reactions from Ghanaians spell out the pain and irritation of Ghanaians over the numerous misappropriation of state-owned funds whilst the country languishes in abject poverty, yet others are drinking and milking from the already lean public funds without mercy.
Many also lamented how accountability and due punishment have eluded the culprits of these suckling attitudes of milking an already dead economy.
Here’s how Ghanaians reacted:
• Exactly what I was telling someone. Nobody is punished for causing financial loss to the state, how then does it deter future occurrences? It has become an annual ritual. It gets published, citizens lambast the culprit, and then the report is thrown into the dark.
How can the nation be losing such huge resources because of the negligence and corrupt practices of a few? We won’t get anywhere as a country until a scapegoat is apprehended.
• It is very sad how we keep borrowing only to allow people to chop the monies we borrow for free. Ghana is indeed sick and needs healing.
• Corruption is gaining notoriety for serving as the benchmark for future misappropriation. This is sad and frightening.
