The Blues’ Premier League encounter this weekend against Leeds will not feature manager Thomas Tuchel or star players N’Golo Kante or Mateo Kovacic. The Blues are coming into this match with some momentum after playing to a 2-2 draw against Tottenham at home.
The officials made several questionable calls throughout the game, and a scuffle broke out between Premier League-winning former Chelsea manager Antonio Conte and Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel. After Harry Kane scored a late equalizer, the two managers exchanged a heated handshake and both were given red card. This means that Tuchel cannot be with his team to coach them against Leeds. Kante and Kovacic, a formidable Chelsea midfield duo, will both miss the game. Even, Barcelona-bound Marcos Alonso will likely be missing.
Edouard Mendy plans to keep his starting job in goal. Thiago Silva will likely start at center back alongside recent goal scorer Kalidou Koulibaly and Reece James. Ruben Loftus-Cheek had his first start of the season in the right wingback position against the Spurs, and if he keeps up his strong play, he may get more minutes in the future. With Kante out for the season with an injury, it’s possible that Jorginho may start alongside Conor Gallagher in the middle of the park. The new Chelsea star Marc Cucurella is favored to keep his position over Ben Chilwell’s.
A return to form for Raheem Sterling and Mason Mount might see them rejoin Kai Havertz in the starting lineup alongside Havertz. Cesar Azpilicueta, the captain of the team, might also be given a starting nod and a spot in the back three. James would then be allowed to switch to wing back, with Loftus-Cheek being demoted to the substitutes’ bench. Trevoh Chalobah is a potential starter in the middle of the field due to his strong defensive abilities.
