Since the current Board and Management of Asante Kotoko took office a couple of seasons ago, the club has seen several changes in the coaching role despite achieving success on the field
So far, four coaches have come and gone since 2019 and, all have not lasted more than a season.
Coach Maxwell Konadu was at the helm of affairs when the Asante Kotoko board appointed Nana Yaw Amponsah as CEO and, he was soon a goner for what was termed lack of consistent performance on his path by the CEO of the club.
Coach Konadu was replaced by his assistants Johnson Smith and Abdul Gazale on an interim basis for a short period.
Portuguese national Mariano Barretto was appointed as head coach soon after and, he was helped in the role by coaches Smith and Gazale for the reminder of the 2020/21 season.
Coach Barretto guided Asante Kotoko to second place in that campaign but, he fell out with the club’s management and, was replaced before the 2021/22 campaign started.
In came Prosper Nartey Ogum who coached the Porcupines to win the diadem last season by a distance and, he endured himself very well with fans of the club.
However, he has just resigned his position as head coach of Asante Kotoko after guiding them to the GPL title after some differences with the management.
He thus, becomes the fourth coach to depart Asante Kotoko in recent times and, it remains to be seen whether the new man to be appointed as coach will last more than a season.
