Check Possible Reasons Nana Addo Refused To Wear Smocks Gifted Him In North East Region

The bible says in parts that ‘we do not wrestle with flesh and blood but with demons and principalities’.

It has become a tradition that when a top government official visits a particular locality, the traditional leaders of the area gift that official a local item. The gift could be in the form of an animal such as cow, sheep or goat. It could also be in the form of farm produce or a tittle. In some cases, the officials are gifted stools, sandals or clothes. In the case of the latter, the people expect the official to wear the cloth or sandals or sit on the seat and take pictures with them.

This has been the case of almost all Ghanaian leaders since the 4th republic. But President Akufo Addo has done the exact opposition. The President paid one day working visit to the North East region over the weekend. He met with the chiefs and queen mothers of Nalerigu and Yunyoo communities. To show appreciation to the President for visiting them for the first time in his second term, each community gifted Nana Addo a smock. But Nana Addo refused to wear them in their presence as anticipated. Instead he spread the smocks on his chest to take the pictures.

You may be wondering why the president did what he did. Well, we too are wondering so.

However, our intel points to two main reasons

1. Security Reasons.

As commander in chief of the Ghana Armed Forces, the security of the president supersedes that of any other thing. Wearing the smock will mean the President would had removed his shirt and by extension undone his bullet proof vest. This act would had exposed him to high security risk in that particular moment. This could be a reason why he refused to wear them.

2. Spiritual Reasons.

Everyone has a spiritual advisor and so is the President. Prior to travelling, the head of state may had consulted his spiritualist who cautioned him not to eat any food served him over there or wear anything being it sandals or cloth gifted him. The President cannot ignore this caution because we live in both the physical and spiritual realms.

Meanwhile Nana Addo took to Facebook to announce his visit to the region

On Saturday, I embarked on a day’s working visit to the North East Region, which took me to Nalerigu and Yunyoo.

Amongst others, I paid a courtesy call on the Nayiri, Naa Bohagu Mahami Abdulai Sheriga; commissioned the newly constructed block of the North East Regional Co-ordinating Council; commissioned the new regional office of the Youth Employment Agency; paid a courtesy call on the Chief of Yunyoo; and inspected the Agenda 111 Hospital Project currently ongoing in Yunyoo, which is one of four (4) being constructed in the North East Region.”

Prior to that visit, Nana Addo had visited the Bono and Upper East regions. In the Bono region, the President commissioned a renovated Sunyani airport. He told the people the project was meant to boost the aviation industry. He assured the people of the region of his utmost support as the country recovers from the impact of Covid-19 and the Russian invasion to Ukraine.
