PUNCH Metro reports that four Oro worshipers were wounded and hurt in the early hours of Monday when unknown assailants ambushed traditionalists carrying out rituals in the Ofatedo town of Osun State.
After some alleged cultists killed one Yinusa Okunloye, who was reportedly the son of the Olofa of Ofatedo, Oba Abdullahi Okunloye, the traditionalists reportedly planned to carry Oro throughout the neighborhood as part of traditional purification.
In the early hours of Saturday, Okunloye is said to have been shot dead by the attackers who called him out of his home on Olofa Street in Ofatedo.
Adesoye further added, “The offenders are alleged cultists that assassinated the prince. We were informed that Oro devotees would travel about the town for cleansing after the prince was shot dead, and we all stayed home.
We heard gunshots early on Monday morning in some areas of the town, and we later learned that four people, reportedly Oro devotees, had been hurt.
Some Osun Police Command agents allegedly stormed the scene after receiving a distress call and engaged the attackers in a gunfight while they were fleeing.
When reached, Yemisi Opalola, the Osun Police Command spokeswoman, verified the event and stated that the four injured victims were being treated at various hospitals.
According to her, security has been stepped up throughout the impacted neighborhood to stop more intrusions.
