Today being Friday, the Deputy Majority Leader read the Business Statement for the ensuring week. According to him the Finance Minister, Ken Ofori Atta will be reading the mid-year review budget to the house next week. It can be recalled that this reading was expected earlier but the negotiations with the IMF stalled it.

Afenyo Markin mentioned that the Finance Minister will get more time of up to 2 hours while the Ranking Member of Finance will get 15 minutes to debate the presentation. This however didn’t the Minority who questioned why the Minority have been given less day to ponder on the budget and also get just 15 minutes. Kofi Adams, Haruna Iddrisu and Ato Forson said it was unfair and asked for more time.

Ato Forson was of the view that Ken Ofori Atta is bringing new additions to his earlier mid-year review and economic policy and as such the Minority cannot be expected to use 15 minutes to debate in such a crucial debate.

“This will require a lot of time to debate this. I do not believe that after the Minister of Finance has used probably 2 hours to present the government position, the opposition spokesperson should be given 15 minutes. I need 30 minutes minimum so I will speak this side of the house our issues. I deserve the opportunity to speak,” Ato Forson said
