The family of late President John Evans Atta Mills is furious at the government for allowing an NGO (Coastal Development Authority) run by former deputy General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress, Koku Anyidoho, to tamper with the grave of the former President at the Asomdwee Park.
Reporting from the official page of Citi News, Samuel Atta Mills (the brother of the late president) has declared that the act is culturally offensive. The consent of the family was not sought before taking such an initiative. The passing of the late President will mark its 10th year on the 24th of July, 2022.
Samuel Atta Mills, the Member of Parliament for Komenda-Edina-Eguafo Abirem, has addressed the press in Parliament. He reported that, the Atta Mills Institute and Coastal Development Authority have gone to break and removed the grave of the late president, claiming that they want to rebuild it.
He added that the burial ground of Ghana’s late President John Evans Attah Mills at Asomdwee Park, is currently in a deplorable state. The condition is nothing too to write home about, as some parts of the fencing protecting it have been taken down.
In his final words, Samuel Atta Mills posed these questions to Atta Mills Institute, Coastal Development Authority and the general public as well. “Now that they have touched the grave, is the body still in there? Who has the body? Why will you touch the body without informing the family head? Under whose authority? Why do they want us to always go through grief? This is a former president, why will the government allow this to happen?”
