Honourable Okudzeto Ablakwa has been trending for some time now over his expose’ on what he called excessive expenditure by the president on his travels.
The Honorable Member in his latest post noted that he and a group of able team has drafted a bill that should regulate presidential travels in Ghana.
Okudzeto Ablakwa stated that his inspiration for drafting this bill was grounded on the need to protect the public purse. He added that the public purse is being abuse by the reckless and insensitive travels by the President and if nothing is done to stop this, future President’s may walk the same path.
He further noted that in the true Spirit of parliamentary oversight and an onerous duty to check reckless dissipation of scarce taxpayers funds, he began to track and publish all of President Akufo-Addo’s profligate travels buy ultra-luxury chartered jet. He affirmed that not a single expose’ has been challenge or impeached till this day.
The MP for North Tongu said he went as far as to offer Ministers of Defense, Finance and National Security the opportunity to refute or discredit his findings in Parliament through the urgent questions he filed which was duly admitted by Mr speaker but all the members literally run from there on a syllable truth choosing rather to seek refuge under the shady clock of national security in the shamefully desperate effort to avoid transparency and accountability.
Mr Okudzeto Ablakwa opined that for the avoidance of doubt, he provided highlights on 13 months of unimpeachable unchallengeable and irreproachable tracking publications from 27th May 2021 2 June 25th 2022. A conservatively estimated total cost of Akufo-Addo’s obscenely lavish chartered trips over the last 13 months which has been paid by the suffering Ghanaian taxpayer works out to a staggering 34 million Ghana cedis.
Okudzeto stressed that this 34 million Ghana Cedis could have been saved because Ghana possesses a functioning presidential jet in great condition.
No precedent he noted in Ghana history ironically those who didn’t make a public pledge to protect the public purse did this to the country.
He emphasized that the rape of the public purse must stop and that is why he is glad to announce that I have lead a dedicated team to draught a private member’s bill to regulate presidential travels in Ghana.
The hope of Okudzeto Ablakwa is that the bill shall be successful so that no future president regardless of which political party platform that brought them to power will have unfettered discretion to subject national purse to such an unconscionable assault.
