Ghana U-17 fails to qualify for CAF championship for the 2nd consecutive time.

Youth football in this country has been in a nosedive for a long time. We have failed to properly plan hence we always get poor results from tournaments. We haven’t invested enough to reap the benefits other countries are enjoying. Since that U-20 world cup triumph in 2009, what has been the fate of our national youth teams? It’s been shambolic performances we have seen from them in recent years.

The Black Starlets are participating in a WAFU Zone B U-17 tournament in Cape Coast. The finalists for this tournament will qualify for the next CAF championship to be held in Algeria next year. As has been the case we have become accustomed to in recent years, the starlets have failed to qualify after succumbing to Burkina Faso this evening. They were defeated by a lone goal via a penalty kick in the second half.

We are becoming used to such heartbreaks. The handlers must ensure that proper investments are made into youth football. We must revive colts football in Ghana if we want our youth teams to perform better and deliver more trophies for us. We have the talents in abundance. Our problem has always been organisational issues.
