Honorable Stephen Amoah, a member of parliament representing the Nhyiaeso seat, has once again reacted to Ghanaians’ economic hardship.

Dr. Stephen Amoah, speaking on Joy News this morning on inflation and other economic challenges, stated emphatically that the country’s troubles did not begin today. He went on to say that the problems have been going on for forty years. In comparison to other economies, he noted, the country’s tax revenue is quite low. He went on to say that the government is working tirelessly to get the economy back on track, but Ghanaians should be aware that the challenges did not begin today.
He also stated that the government is now reviewing its existing spending in order to create a large amount of revenue for the country’s development.
“Yes, it is on the government if you tell me. And I don’t believe the government is dozing off. The fact is if you have forty-year-old problems, and we sit there with a population that has grown from around 5 million to around 31 million, you have a problem. In a situation where only about 7% of workers pay taxes, we have a negative effective tax rate. For years, the issues have been exacerbated. As a government, it has basic issues to check, such as current spending “he stated.
