There was a bit of drama in Parliament today, 8th June, 2022 after some parliamentarians complained about the lack of funds from the government to their various districts to support development.
The agenda or business for today’s Parliament was not about the National Cathedral. However, Okudzeto Ablakwa raised a concern about the delay in the District Assemblies common fund and added that issue of the National Cathedral to his statement.
According to him, if the government does not have enough money to give to the MPs as their common fund for their districts, then how can the government quickly get an amount of ¢200 million for the National Cathedral.
Immediately he made this statement, the acting speaker of parliament, Honorable Andrew Asiamah made it clear to him that he is completely out of order. He added that he wouldn’t have allowed him to speak if he was going to speak about that.
“You know that your finance minister is doing is not right. He finds over ¢200 million for National Cathedral without Parliament approval. It is wrong” Okudzeto said.
“Honorable Okudzeto, where you are going is completely out of order” speaker revealed.
