High Court Judge Reveals Punishment For People Who Demand Digging Fee From Land Developers

Many land developers get their construction sites stormed by some persons who demand digging fees. Some land developers pay the said fees while others refuse. Those who refuse to pay end up fighting with the person’s demand for the fees. The act is illegal and by law. 

High Court Judge, His Lordship, Justice Alexander Osei Tutu, has revealed the serious consequences of demanding digging fees from land developers. 

He said, “Now you can go to court and get a restraining order which is different from the normal interlocutory injunction. So you can get a restraining order stopping them from coming unto the land and you can continue with your development”.

According to Justice Alexander Osei Tutu, the law now criminalizes the collection of digging fees.

“The person can also report them to the police, it is now criminalized and it is a criminal offense. It is punishable summarily between 10 to 15 years”.
