Rev. Dr. Jennifer Donkor has narrated how she almost got killed in an abusive relationship with a man she loved, who initially promised to love and take care of her.
She told her story of abuse in a relationship on Joy FM as a means to encourage women to walk away from abusive relationships.
According to Rev Dr. Jennifer Donkor, she met her first love when she was approximately 23 years old, and what she thought would be a breeze turned into her greatest nightmare.

Rev Dr. Jennifer Donkor stated that she had been to the Volta Region from Accra and met the young guy who was a friend of her brother.
She claimed they started conversing and grew to like each other. Rev Dr. Jennifer Donkor said she was looking forward to returning to Accra, so when the young man invited her to join him, she saw an opportunity.

She moved in with him, but it was just the start of her issues.
Rev Dr. Jennifer Donkor acknowledged that the man was decent, but that his only flaw was his anger issues, which robbed him of his best qualities.
Rev Dr. Jennifer Donkor stated she was supposed to cook fufu and soup for her guy and six other pals and that was the first day she was beaten by him.
Narrating the incident, she stated that she was able to make the soup but was unable to pound enough fufu for six people, so she texted her then-boyfriend, informing him that she would want assistance in pounding the fufu.
After the young man had returned with his pals, she explained why the fufu couldn’t be pounded. her then boyfriend waited for his buddies to depart and then pounced on her and gave her the beatings of her life.
“He took a belt but I held the belt. So he could not get anything but a laptop charger. He beat me with a laptop charger. That time I was very stubborn so you throw one blow and I will throw another. So when he took the belt I held it and he took a laptop charger,” she said.
“I didn’t want to go to the village or Tema station. I couldn’t go because I loved this guy and I thought he will change. He didn’t change and I also couldn’t leave. One day, while in school, a lady called me to come home because the guy had brought another lady there. I took a bus from Takoradi to the house to see things for myself.
When I got there he opened the door and I saw another lady there. I told the lady to go out so I speak to my man. When I asked him why he will do that, he said he had done nothing wrong. That night he beat me blue-black and called the lady to come and sleep. We all slept on the same bed. When you’re in love you’ll do all the crazy things. When he offends and beat you up, he will come with his family members to talk to you.”
Rev. Dr. Jennifer Donkor stated she was in that abusive relationship for six years but never made mention of it to any of her family members because of the massive love she had for the young man.
