Arrest And Probe Chairman Wontumi And Others Over Bribery Charges In Elections – Ex Cpp Chairman.

Themselves former Ashanti Regional chairman of the Convention Peoples Party (Cpp) Mr. A. S Osei Yaw, has expressed worry about the unfolding bribery allegations emerging out from the backyard of the Ashanti regional chairman, Mr Bernard Antwi Bosiako (aka Chairman Wontumi) and other contestants in the chairmanship race in the just ended regional constituency elections

And therefore, call on the Inspector General of Police, Dr George Akuffo Dampare to order for the arrest of Chairman Wontumi and other loosing contestants for probe to ascertain the truth or otherwise in the allegations to enable the police take action.

According to the former chairman who was speaking to the Corresppndent in an interview, elections are won on a clear note and transparency and not through backyard.

And therefore it the duty of the police to investigate the alleged bribery charges leveled against Wontumi and others, and when found innocent cleared to avoid any suspicion in the society.

Mr Osei Yaw observed that apart from the allegations that tend to cast slur on the image of Chairman Wontumi and others, it is also denting the reputation of the New Patriotic Party as a ruling political entity in the country.

The former Ashanti regional chairman indicateded that if the allegations are true then the democratic processes in the country is at risk, hence the call on the IGP for a probe to set the records straight.

Ghanaians cannot afford to keep silent over these alleged unfolding bribery case in elections until the whole truth is brought out, Mr Osei Yaw bemoaned.

Mr A. S Osei Yaw reiterated that the alleged attitudes of the candidates are contrary to the democratic practices of the country if the allegations are true.

Ghanaians should also condemn the attitudes in no uncertain terms, the former chairman disclosed.

At the time Ghanaians cannot afford to enjoy even one meal a day, how can one politician alone pays out an alleged bribe of twenty-five thousand cedis each to over three hundred delegates, the former chairman asked.

Adding that the issues are of national interest, and it is appropriate for the police to investigate and find the sources in which the accused persons got the funds for their campaign to help clear their names, Mr Osei Yaw concluded.
