Momo Agents Accept E-levy Payment; Says Government Need Money For Development

Not quite long, the introduction of a controversial electronic levy popularly known as the “E-levy” was imposed on all electronic transactions that involve the use of mobile money either Mtn Momo, Tigo cash, or Voda cash, airtel-Tigo money, likewise zeepay. This implies that you are going to be charged a fee whenever you send an amount of more than one hundred Ghana cedis(¢100.00) in a day. The telecommunication networks charge their normal fee while the government too will take its share in the name of e-levy as you already know.

People thought it was a hoax until the set date was due and people started to experience it. Although certain clients are unhappy with it, they have no other option than to stick to it and absorb it. Despite the challenges that the customers are trying to deal with, people who address themselves as mobile money agents are announcing that they have welcomed the controversial and debatable e-levy and have given it a seat to stay.

Now the question is, wherefrom these persons who call themselves mobile money operators operating in the country whose locations are yet unknown? Are there some hidden forces that are pushing the leaders of these vendors to come and say this to the public to make the payment look nice to us? We all saw how these mobile money vendors stood up against the implementation of the e-levy charges, but how come all of a sudden, the leadership has made a sharp turn to stand for the government? Is it that they have been incited by presents that are not known? Well, we are yet to find out what is behind them.

Which telecommunication network do you use for your online transactions? Are the charges moderate and cool for you or you are just using it because you have no other choice? Let’s hear your views in the comments section on how you are coping with this controversy.
