The just ended New Patriotic Party-NPP’s, regional delegates conference to elect regional executives, has finally come to an end with many ‘twists and turns’.
This year’s conference; like all others, saw the election of Regional offices like; Regional Chairperson, First Regional Vice Chairperson, Second Regional Vice Chairperson, Regional Secretary, Assistant Regional Secretary, Regional Treasurer, Regional Organizer, Regional Women’s Organizer, Regional Youth Organizer and Regional NASARA Coordinator across the country.
While some incumbent executives successfully retained their position, many others also lost them. One the of famous NPP Regional Chairmen, who won re-election is the Ashanti Regional Chairman, Mr. Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi.
Chairman Wontumi’s re-electio, was followed by anger from some NPP party faithfuls and serial callers, who in their views, think Chairman Wontomi must be voted out.
We saw one of these party faithfuls, who is also a very known serial caller for the NPP, holding a bottle of Schnapps; and invoking curses on Chairman Wontumi, on his re-election as the Ashanti Regional chairman of the NPP.
In the latest message to Chairman Wontumi, some NPP party faithfuls has told him (Wontumi), to change his attitude in order to ensure the party’s breaking the 8-agenda.
According to these disgruntled NPP serial callers in the Ashanti region (who campaigned against Chairman Wontumi), “Now the election is over, I think we are all here as a family, we thank those who supported us and those who didn’t support us. What we are saying is, if the Chairman who has been re-elected is hearing me, what we need from him is a change”.
Speaking in an interview, the spokesperson of the disgruntled NPP serial callers in the Ashanti region, Abilele said, “He (Charman Wontumi), should change his attitude because if he doesn’t change his attitude, then I don’t believe the breaking the 8, we are going to break that 8”.
Meanwhile, Chaiman Wontumi in his victory speech indicated that, the NPP will definitely break the 8-year cycle in the 2024 general elections, and that, the “[NDC] can lie, [NDC] can spread fake news but winning the 2024 elections is a movement”.
