Over the years America’s Got Talents has been one of the most televised talent discovery shows in the Americas. Having caught global attention the show has come to stay and help discover new talents and reward the nest amongst them.
There are so many things to highlight about the show, but today we are going to talk about the famous golden buzzer, the idea behind it, its meaning, and what it entails to get a golden buzzer by one of the judges.
What is the golden buzzer? If an act is awarded the golden buzzer at the end of their audition, it grants them a place in one of the show’s live semi-finals. This means they skip past the Bootcamp stage of the competition, giving them a head start. The Golden Buzzer is a concept that was introduced in Season 9 of America’s Got Talent.
Each judge may press their Golden Buzzer only once during the season. In Season 9, the Golden Buzzer sent the act to the next round regardless of the other judges’ votes; its main purpose was to break ties. In Season 10, the Golden Buzzer was upgraded to send an act straight to the live shows.
This method continues on for the next several seasons. From Season 11 onwards, the host can use the Golden Buzzer to send an act straight to the live shows.
