At the moment, with the social media revolution currently happening, many people are trying to get famous online. They do this for many reasons however the most prominent being money, as certain social media sites will pay you for the number of views on your videos. However while doing this, some creators cross the line, one example of this is the situation below.
Fear mongering :
In a video recently posted to the social media site TikTok, which you can watch by clicking on the link below, an indian man plays a prank on a group of Black men. However this prank is unusually cruel.
The men are sitting outside a shopping center talking and relaxing. However the prankster come up behind them carrying a Bluetooth speaker and a cellphone. He uses his phone to play the sound of shooting through the speaker, making it loud and lifelike. This scares the men and causes them to try and escape the shooting before the realize what’s going on.
Upon there realization they chase the man as he runs away from them, ending the video. However I’m very worried about the implications of this kind of situation. Click the link below to watch the video or keep reading for my opinion on this.

The reality of the situation ;
South Africa is not a very safe Country, everyday people are being murdered by criminals and one of the methods they use are shootings. So its safe to assume from there reactions that these men thought the gunshots were real and they were going to be killed by someone shooting at them. As that’s a very real possibility, making this prank more cruel than funny.
However there is also another issue, at the end of the video the men chase after him and try to catch him. Presumably they would be violent to him once they caught him. What would he do than, would he blame them for the attack or have them arrested even though he instigated the entire situation.
The consequences of this could end up with the victims being blamed for reacting to a situation where they were they were just living there lives, and an inconsiderate social media personality decided to use them to get likes online. I urge all social media creators to respect people while making videos.
