The Western Cape legislature has decided to show love and support to the people of Ukraine by lighting up the Wale Street building in yellow and blue colors.
This initiative from the legislature has left many people talking most especially opposition parties and other citizens. Many believe it is a total waste of time, and a show of hypocrisy.
“The Western Cape legislature’s decision to show solidarity with Ukraine by lighting up its Wale Street building in yellow and blue set off a war of words.”
Some people most especially South Africans have reacted to this in various ways, take a look at some of their responses below;
@Tshifhiwa_mabir tweeted,
“DA is a big problem in this country.”
@thulaniskosana3 tweeted,
“You’re putting it politely.”
@karabop091 tweeted,
“People have been killed in Africa and the Middle East in wars and you’ll never see them lighting any street. Or is it a matter of who is being killed or who are they?”
@TygerQB tweeted,
“Yes, people of Ukraine need yellow and blue lights on buildings and people’s social media profiles.”
@beauchamp_lord tweeted,
“Great! Let’s show support to the brave Ukrainians.”
@newhorizanman tweeted,
“Well done. @geordinhl and cape town.”
@RIP_Phetha tweeted,
“Western cape did this while DRC, Mali, Sudan, etc we’re being massacred! Black people’s lives don’t matter!!! Hai Mother Russia! Do what needs to be done!”
Author’s opinion:
I don’t think they need to go to the extent of lighting up wall street all in the name of showing love and support to the people of Ukraine.
