If you were hoping for a pleasant day today, unfortunately you may be dissapointed. The South African Weather Service has issued eight weather alerts for today (Monday 28 February). However all the alerts issued regard hot weather, below you will find information on which areas they affect and how to prepare for them.
Weather Warnings;
Each weather alert/warning shows the affected areas in green text, followed by the duration of the bad weather in orange text. As we can see from these alerts, the hot weather that is expected to hit these areas may cause fires fires that can spread rapidly. These fires can destroy properties and take lives if not properly contained.
The hot weather can also cause heat stroke, which may be fatal if medical attention is not administered to the affected person.
Given the issue this type of weather can cause, it’s best to start preparing. Here are some ways you can do so.
Guidelines to beat the bad weather :
Start by first and foremost staying hydrated. Freeze water or buy ice water that you can carry with you to avoid the thirst that hot weather causes.
Also pay special attention to the way you dress for today, I suggest dressing in layers, so that you can remove or add layers depend on the changes in the weather.
Also pay special attention to children, pets and the elderly during this time as they may not be able to deal with the heat. Do everything you can to keep them cool, comfortable and hydrated.
Given this type of weather, if you are not working I highly suggest you take your family on a trip to the beach or pool.
