Recently, police have impounded a BMW SUV and arrested two suspects that were using the car. It is alleged that the men used the SUV to steal an entire ATM
The pair was in the of three others that held staff at gunpoint at a filling station near Secunda on Friday the 25th of February 2020.
Colonel Donald Mdhluli who is the police spokesperson in the are told the media that, the heavily armed men arrived at the filling station at around 02:00 am.
The witnesses to the crime noted that some of them were wearing police bulletproof vests.
On arrival at the filling station, the suspects, who were armed with rifles, tied employees and detached the ATM, loaded it on a trailer and proceeded to tow it away.
“The shocking incident was reported to police who swiftly responded by activating a search of the suspects who could still be on the road at the time.
While seach, police spotted a BMW X3 matching the description of the wanted vehicle a long way away from the place the ATM had been stolen.
A high-speed chase ensued. This went on until the BMW was brought to a halt near Morgenzon. Inside the vehicle, police found number plates and a number tools that the suspects used to remove the ATM.
The suspects were arrested, and their vehicle impounded. Colonel Donald Mdhluli went on to say, the car will form part of the investigation into the crime. The two men are expected to appear in court on Monday the 28th of February.”
Mdhluli also pointed out that they were looking for the remaining suspects to bring them to justice
