Even as the country’s invasion of Ukraine enters its third day, certain Russian government websites were unavailable on Saturday.
The Kremlin and the Ministry of Defense are among the organizations whose websites are unavailable.
Although the exact cause of the outages is not known at this time, the international hacking group Anonymous has claimed responsibility for the attacks.
A tweet from the anonymous group stated: “Anonymous has ongoing operations to take down.ru government websites and to push information to the Russian people so that they can be free of Putin’s official censorship machine.”
On Friday, the same Russian websites went down for a short period of time, although the Kremlin denied that it was the target of an Anonymous cyberattack, according to state media. It’s the third day in a row that Russian websites have been rendered inaccessible, if only for a little amount of time.
Anonymous has stated that it is aiming to “keep the Ukrainian people online as much as we possibly can.”
