Rumour has it that Government will terminate contracts of school assistants who receive R350

There are rumours circulating on Facebook, about the School assistant posts that were brought forth by the presidential Youth Employment Initiative. Over 200 000 of youth have been employed as General School Assistants and teacher’s assistants in all the nine provinces. After phase 1 intake was successful, PYEI again came with phase two of the posts to give others chance.

There is a group on Facebook where people discuss matters concerning those posts. Currently there are rumours that are being spread by people in the group. It’s being said that the government will terminate the contracts of assistants who still receive the SRD grant meant for the unemployed. 

The SRD grant was introduced in 2020 in order to bring relief to citizens who lost their jobs due to the pandemic. Employed citizens are not allowed to receive this kind of grant however the government knows nothing about termination of contracts.
