Two Mpumalanga criminals were nabbed by the police after they fled with an ATM. A black BMW SUV; they were using in the commission of the crime; was seized by the police.
According to the spokesperson for the SAPS in Mpumalanga; Colonel Donald Mdhluli; five heavily armed men; arrived at a filling station in Secunda; at approximately 02:00; on Friday morning; and held staff at gunpoint.
Among the suspects; some were wearing police bulletproof vests. The duo that was arrested; and three of their cronies; held staff at gunpoint at a filling station; where they stole an ATM.
The three assailants at large are still missing together with the ATM. A trailer was attached to the BMW vehicle; that was seized by the police; and was was used to tow the ATM away from the filling station.
The rifle armed suspects; tied employees and detached the ATM; which they loaded on a trailer attached to the BMW SUV; and towed it away.
When the robbery was reported to police; they dispatched law enforcement teams to search for the suspects; the teams later spotted a BMW X3 matching the description of the wanted vehicle.
The BMW was brought to a halt near Morgenzon; following a high speed chase. The vehicle had; number plates and tools to remove the ATM.
Mdhluli told a local newspaper that; the two men are expected to appear in court on Monday; while the cops were still looking for the remaining suspects.
Meanwhile Mpumalanga police commissioner; Lieutenant-General Semakaleng Manamela; said the SAPS appreciates the work done by the police teams and for their quick reaction in arresting the perpetrators.
One would think the shooting to death of 8 criminals in Rosettenville; Johannesburg in Gauteng; by the police last friday; would deter others from committing robberies; but no; they continue; as if nothing ever happened
