Calls were made for the SA government to halt the donation to Cuba and focus on local issues

There is a coalition that is made of more than 60 NPOs which deals with hunger relief that made a delivery of a petition meant to block a donation of R50-million to Cuba . The petition was reportedly made to the Department of International Relations and Cooperation , with the aim of making the government divert the money towards solving the hunger problems in South Africa .

The petition is reported to have had more than 16000 signatories , hence the call for the government to look at the hunger issues affecting South Africa .South Africa reportedly offered to assist Cuba as it is affected by food problems as a result of the sanctions that were imposed on it by the United States of America .The coalition hopes that it will get the response from the department within seven days . The petition was reportedly received by the acting director general , Mr Clayson Monyela .
