Fired With Immediate Effect: President Cyril Ramaphosa Fires SA’s Top Police Boss

It looks like the battle between Police Minister Bheki Cele and National Commissioner Khehla Sitole has come to an end, this is after the intervention of president Cyril Ramaphosa. Ramaphosa has sent one of the packing with just a month’s notice.

The pair have been on it for years, with accusations against each other flying through the corridors of parliament.

Their matter escalated last Tuesday when Sitole denied that he hatched a plot with EFF leader Julius Malema to remove Cele. Cele had made these allegations in parliament

President Ramaphosa has, by mutual agreement, terminated the employment contract of national police commissioner Khehla Sitole with effect from 31 March 2022. The news were made public through a statement released by the President’s office on Friday afternoon. Both Sitole and Cele are yet to respond to the sacking of Sitole.

These developments are most likely to be welcomed by many who have always seen their public spats as an embarrassment for the office of the men in blue.
