Mnakwethu: MaShelembe’s mother hits back at Bheki for his treatment of her daughter

Mnakwethu Happily Ever After is proving to be contrary to that. No one is happy. Bheki from season two who is MaShelembe’s husband, came to his in-laws who were not willing to listen to his cries. He tried to make amends but it was too late.

His visit left a bitter taste in the Shelembe family’s mouths.

The families followed on the show are trying to navigate polygamy and none of them are successful. MaShelembe is a popular fan favourite and hadn’t appeared on the show. We finally learned that her lawyers advised the show that she would not make an appearance. We also learned that MaShelembe got her fire cracker personality from her mother!

Bheki tried to pretend to be sorry but she saw right through his act and I was proud to be a witness to her fierce attitude and her ability to stand up for her daughter. She reminded her son-in-law that Makhosi Shelembe is young and will find love again. He isn’t the end of the road for her, merely a pit stop. She also reminded him that their poverty was NO cause for him to undermine them

Social Media Response

Twitter had a field day with this weeks episode and had been salivating, waiting for a chance to see the confrontation go down.

One user wrote, “Good for MaShelembe’s mom for standing up for herself. This Bheki is forever denying things. #MnakwethuHEA“

While another user was appalled at the lack of responsibility from Bheki, they wrote, “It’s the fact that Bhekesisa is still unapologetic for me ! Good for MaShelembe’s mom #mnakwethuhea #MnakwethuHappilyEverAfter”

Personal Thoughts

I have to say I was looking forward to seeing Makhosi’s mother say her peace. All season long her son-in-law has been trying to frame this as being out of his hands and accepting no fault. She cut right through that and without hesitating, put him in his place.

She defended her daughter with her entire chest and the pride in which she did it, reminded me of Makhosi herself, like mother, like daughter. I hope all the women on the show watching this realise that walking away from these men is possible and can help you have a better life.
