Scientific Index Rankings: UI Don Tops The List Of Most Productive Researchers In Nigeria

A don from the University of Ibadan is on top of the list of productive academics in Nigeria. Data obtained from the latest edition of AD Scientific Index also shows that this UI don is one of the academics that have H-indices greater than 60. Who are they?

The don on top of this list is Professor Oyewusi Gureje. This consultant psychiatrist was born in Ilesa and obtained his first degree in Medicine and Surgery from University of Benin before proceeding for further Studies in Neuropsychiatry in University of Ibadan. Gureje joined the service of the Nigeria’s premier university in 1989 and became a consultant in psychiatry in the University College Hospital, Ibadan in the same year. The man has served as president of the Association of Psychiatrists in Nigeria as well as African Association of Psychiatrists and Allied Professions. The erudite academic has published hundred of academic materials that have got more than eighty three thousand citations. He has an H-index (a neasure of cumulative impact of an author’s scholarly output and performance a research work)

The next person on the list is Mayowa Owolabi, a professor of Neurology. He studied in UI and University of Medicine, Berlin, where he obtained his MBBS and Doctor Medicinae respectively. This fellow ot the African Academy of Sciences is specialized in stroke and related neurological disorders. Owolabi’s H-index is 74. This is 3 higher than the next highest ranked academic in the person of Bolajoko Olubukunola Olusanya, a researcher at Centre for Healthy Start Initiative. Olusanya, the only woman in the list has her first degree in Medicine and Surgery from UI and proceeded to University College, London for a,training in Paediatrics. She has more than 77 thousand citations of her scholarly works.

Professor Ganiyu Oboh of the Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA) is fourth among them. This Biochemist – who is born in Auchi, Edo State – had all his degrees at FUTA where he got employed as an assistant lecturer in 1997. Oboh’s works are focused on functional foods and nutraceuticals. He has published scores of academic works that have been cited more than sixteen thousand times. The FUTA don has H-index of 64. Andrew Toyin Olagunju is the fifth don with an H-index of more than 60. Olagunju (a Fellow of West African College of Physicians) is currently a faculty member of UNILAG College of Medicine. His publications which are focused on Psychogeriatric issues. His works have generated 72000 citations on Google Scholar giving an H-index of 62.
