Countdown To Secret Vote On Motion Of Censure On Ken Ofori Atta Has Started – Okudzeto Ablakwa

The Finance Minister Ken Ofori Atta has come under so much pressure as the economy of the country struggles. There have been calls on the President to sack his Finance Minister but all the calls have yielded very little. President Akufo-Addo on so many interview platforms have insisted that he has no reason to sack Ken Ofori Atta. Instead he has referred to his minister as outstanding and excellent.

On Tuesday morning a number of NPP MPs staged a press conference calling on the President to sack Ken Ofori Atta. This was followed by a censure motion from the Minority in Parliament who also called for the minister to be sacked. Well, today, Thursday, October 27, 2022, Speaker Alban Bagbin has admitted the motion of censure.

This means that all is set for a debate and eventual vote on the minister. According to Okudzeto Ablakwa, MP for North Tongue, the date for a secret voting is ticking and on November 10 all will know what will happen. With some NPP MPs wavering in their support for Ken Ofori Atta, anything is possible. What even makes it more dangerous is that it will be a secret voting. This means that some MPs can renege and vote for or against the motion and go against their political parties.

In a meeting with the Majority Caucus the President asked them to hold on their request to have Ken Ofori Atta sacked. He charged them to wait till the deal with the International Monetary Fund is finalized. Ken Ofori Atta is currently leaving a group of economic experts from Ghana to seal a deal with the IMF. Many are doubtful if a deal will be arrived at by the end of the year. Will Ken survive a secret vote on his job? Will he get an IMF deal before November 10?
