Ghanaians Create New Flag To Symbolize Economic Hardship. Checkout The Colours And What They Mean

The Ghanaian citizenry have been enslaved with hardship under the stewardship of selfish, greedy and sycophant leaders, for too long.

Less attention is given to relevant needs of the people, but rather, our leaders only dream of creating, looting and sharing to enrich themselves, when the citizens give them power to serve them.

Steadily, the Ghanaian youths are beginning to show signs of regret for poor governance in the country. The effort of the government in the galamsey fight seem to be worsening the situation rather. Inflation as a result of the fast depreciation of the Cedis against Dollars, is now a state headline.

The youth has now been forced to redefine and change the face of the National Flag, since everything doesn’t seem how it used to be before.

The Ghana flag was adopted upon the independence of the Dominion of Ghana on March 6, 1957. It was designed the same year by Theodosia Okoh, who was a renowned Ghanaian artist. The flag was flown until 1959, when other variants were introduced from 1958 to 1962 and from 1964 to 1966.

However, the original one was then reinstated in 1966.

The Actual Meaning of the colors of Ghana’s National Flag Vs the Updated Version of the Flag:

The flag has three horizontal bands of equal width: red (above), yellow (center) and green below. These are the colors of the African continent. In the center of the yellow stripe is a black five-pointed star recalling the fact that Ghana was the first country in Africa to gain independence in the 20th century.

The red represents the blood of those who died for the struggle for independence from colonial masters Great Britain.

The yellow/gold also represents the country’s abundant mineral resources. As you may be aware, Ghana is the second country in Africa after South Africa with the largest gold reserves. It also has bauxite in large commercial quantities.

The green was rightly guessed. Yes! It symbolizes the rich forests and natural wealth. Ghana is rich in green vegetation and has lots of natural wealth such as timber which has long been one of the country’s leading exports.

The black star is a symbol of African emancipation from slavery. As it is rightly known, Ghana is the first country in Africa to gain independence. And it needed a symbol to inspire other African countries to also fight for freedom, hence, the black star.

However, the updated version of the flag omit certain colours, and here’s why:

This flag has the red colour, which signifies national bleeding (hardship).

The usual yellow/gold colour was however omitted because of the operations of illegal miners. State minerals are mined illegally, hence none is conserved for future.

The green colour was also omitted because the activities of illegal miners damage the country’s green vegetation (forest). Hence, our rich natural wealth is harmed.
