Captain Smart reveals what Kufuor did when he told him he was seriously involved in galamsey

According to Captain Smart, accusing a president of galamsey is not unique to the administration of Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.

The journalist claims he confronted ex-President Kufuor about being “seriously involved in galamsey” when one of Kufuor’s appointees was responsible for the destruction of forest reserves and the pollution of water bodies in Manso Adubia and the surrounding area.

Francis Poku, the minister of national security at the time, was reportedly told by John Agyekum Kufuor to make an arrest, as reported by Captain Smart.

But he expressed his surprise that President Akufo-Addo has not taken any action against Wontumi and instead has gone after the journalists who have reported on the matter.

I informed Kufuor that Kufuor is deeply interested in galamsey. At the time I told Kufuor that one of his own was “seriously implicated,” Madam Chinery-Hesse was present. I said that Alhaji Salia engages in galamsey in the area of Manso Adubia and its enclave, and that the fact that he frequently appears in your indicates that you approve of his behavior.

So when we arrived in Alhaji Salia’s neighborhood, he came out to greet us, and Kufuor was told, “That man right there is Alhaji Salia.” Kufuor contacted him and questioned him about his destructive actions toward forests and water sources. Knowing that I walk with you, people assume that I, too, am engaging in galamsey. Avoid doing that if you can.

Afterward, “Kufuor signaled National Security Coordinator, Francis Poku to arrest him and he was apprehended,” he said.
