UCC revels in No. 1 ranking

The University of Cape Coast (UCC) has retained its position as the topmost ranked university in Ghana and West Africa and the 4th in Africa.

This was known after the Times Higher Education (THE) released the 2023 World University Rankings (WUR) on Wednesday, October 12.

UCC was also ranked among the top 400 universities in the world.

Despite this feat, the Cape Coast-located university dropped 23 places from its position as the Number One in terms of research influence globally to the 24th position.

“This achievement demonstrates the reputation of the scholarly research outputs of UCC during the past six (6) decades,” a press release on Thursday, October 13 said.

“By this feat, UCC has also demonstrated its contribution to higher education and the impact of its scholarly research in Ghana, Africa and globally,” the release signed by the Director of Public Affairs, Major (rtd) Kofi Baah-Bentum, said.

The annual THE WUR is the most prestigious global ranking aimed at providing the definitive list of best universities, evaluated across five key areas of Teaching, Research, Citations, International Outlook and Industry Income.

THE uses 13 carefully calibrated performance indicators to provide the most comprehensive and balanced comparisons and all data are independently audited by professional services firm PricewaterhouseCoopers.

“The Directorate of Research, Innovation and Consultancy (DRIC) and the Office of the Vice-Chancellor would like to thank the staff, students and all stakeholders for the various contributions towards these sterling achievements.”
